July meeting  this will be our skittles evening, a fun night not to be missed, so does try to come along. Don’t forget that the time of year means it will still be light at the end of the evening.

Vacancies
The position of  Social Secretary is still vacant.  This position could be filled by a Lady of the branch. In the absence of a social secretary this task falls to the committee to arrange so any ideas for entertainment of any sort would be most welcome.

Monthly Informal Lunches
As usual held on the first Tuesday, menu lists on the table at evening meetings. Contact John Cusack for any information or to book/choose from menu if not at meeting.

Birthdays of Note
This month we celebrate the 85th birthday of Roy Athay on 30th June, and Ken Easthope’s 80th birthday on 2nd July. We wish you both a very Happy Birthday.

Annual Lunch 2018
Following Bob’s volunteering to take on the Annual Lunch next spring he has provisionally booked the Cumberland Hotel for the 28th April 2018.

Bill Galbraith and Linda Barnes
Sadly, one of our new members from the New Forest Branch, Bill Galbraith, passed away on Monday 15th May.  Also Linda Barnes wife of Barny Barnes from the New Forest Branch passed away on 5th June at Oakhaven Hospice.  Our sincere condolences go to both families.

Welfare
John Friberg remains in Poole hospital, and his wife, Peggy, is less than impressed with his treatment as it seems he picked up an infection whilst there. This appears to have been sorted now and he should be home soon.
George Bubb is in hospital again following another fall, and it seems unlikely he will be able to return home. Bob has passed on the Branches’ best wishes to George and his daughter, Jackie.

REA BBQ and Standard Bearers Competition
This event is to be held this year on the 8th July at a cost of £12 and is a most enjoyable day out.  It takes place at the barracks at Perham Down, near Tidworth and starts with the Standard Bearers Parade, followed by the competition. Then it’s back to the mess where drinks are served and the BBQ is held, indoors, if wet.

Cruise Bonus
This is a reminder that any ex-serviceman can claim extra on-board spending money from the Carnival group, which includes P&O, Princess and Cunard. This can be claimed when making the booking or afterwards, but at least one week before the sailing date. The extra on-board spend is given to both the ex-serviceman and his wife. Your discharge papers or other proof of service should be taken on the cruise in case they ask to see proof of service.   Also if you have any relatives still serving, let them know that they can claim a discount on the cruise itself.
