BRANCH ANNUAL LUNCH
Once again held at the Cumberland Hotel, the lunch was enjoyed by 40 diners. The members were pleased to welcome fellow member Alister Sword, who now resides in the Royal Hospital Chelsea, accompanied by his lady companion Pamela. It was pleasing to see so many of our late vice president Tony Edwards family with us. Richard Silsby welcomed everyone present and then said grace.
Following the meal Bert Martin called on Alister to propose the loyal toast. The final speech was made by John Cusack which included thanks to the hotel staff for an excellent meal and service. Also a final toast to absent friends and those we have so sadly recently lost, Peggy Piggott, Tony Edwards, Arthur Hardiman and Jack Francis. Jim Tongs then led the members in a rousing rendition of the corps song “Hurrah for the CRE”. Our sincere thanks to the Social Secretary who organised the event and conducted the raffle ably assisted by Jean and Dot. Many thanks to Joan for making the corsages for the ladies and for all the other help she gave.
